Spring Break Craziness!

Addy and I are just getting done enjoying a good two weeks worth of Spring Break fun! It started out with Jamie's family coming to town the weekend their Spring Break started! We had fun going to parks Friday and Saturday, then hit up church Sunday. Monday, Cameron had to go back to school, so I hitched a ride with the Petersons to go check out the San Antonio Children's Museum! Addy wasn't feeling very good, so she was a little grouchy, but still had a good time!
'Riding' the milk cow (She didn't get on it, cause I was holding her...
because the sign on the cows neck says, "Do not climb on the cow" :)
Shopping in 'HEB'
Hanging out in a mini chuck wagon...

Catching the falling balls
Talking on the phone
Playing the pipe organ
Playing with the bubbles
Chasing the fishies
Even though Addy's grouchiness turned into a fever that really made Addy not feel well, we had one last hurrah with the Petersons at Chuck-E-Cheese... Addy was barely functional, but we managed to use a full $2 worth of tokens.
Not even a princess carriage with pretty horses could get her to smile...

She loved whacking the buttons

The closest she got to a smile
This was her favorite ride! It was of course out of order, but she just played with the steering wheel :)
After a couple of days for Addy to recuperate and finally get rid of that fever, we decided to go shoot some picts in some bluebonnets! Becca was the wonderful photographer!
Typical Addy face... Figuring out what's going on or just stone-facing despite all efforts to make her laugh/smile :)

She finally smiled just once! Good thing Becca's quick! See her new molars and other teeth!

The end of the previous smile... just enjoying being outside...

But when a princess is done, she's done!
Well, after that weekend, Cam, Addy and I headed up to Enchanted Rock for Addy's first overnight camping trip! It was a great way to start Cam's Spring Break weekend!
Addy and I supervised while...
Cameron hung the hammock!
Then everyone jumped on for a swing!
After a 'dirt-dipped' snack, ...
we headed up Enchanted Rock!
After some tough climbing and lifting,
Adelaide was ready to stretch her legs, so she grabbed a string cheese and chased
after the hawks that were circling high overhead. (She loves pointing out birds!)
Her string cheese ended up with some extra minerals :)

We headed down the rock on a trail less traveled!
It's always good to have a fresh apple to eat en-route.
It keeps a body hydrated and energized!
We had to tighten our laces, (and make sure Addy
was comfortable facing backwards) so that
she could lead the way down
and find a comfy rock to sit on.
Hanging out on rocks is always more fun if you have someone to hang out with!
We got down and then headed up the other side,
Addy had a fun time climbing up the trail, but soon her little legs were tired so it was back in the pack.
We made it to the top of Little Rock,
found some little onion-y emergency food,
and even did some back stretches before heading back to camp.
Dinner was amazing tinfoil dinners and after two lost apples,
we finally had one of our roasted apple
to stay on long enough for...
both of us to enjoy a few bites!
Addy had an exciting night, switching up who
she was rolling around on...
but she spent the majority of the night with me.

Which, as you can tell, had some after-effects on the way home :)
After getting home on Tues, Cam headed to North Carolina for Wed & Thurs. Addy and I had fun here and then we've all just had a quiet rest of the week and weekend...
We needed some time to catch up on sleep!

Braided Hair Day!

So I just wanted to document the first time that I braided Adelaide's hair! :) It didn't stay in for all of church and you could barely tell it was done, but I'm telling you it was a little french braid across her forehead! :) Fun times!
Front view - With our reverent pose

I even braided my hair too so that she would know it was the 'cool' thing to do! ;)

Side View - Gotta love those cheeks!

Dish Disaster

Doing dishes seems to be one of the never-ending tasks of motherhood, along with laundry, sweeping, etc. and I recently had been having a little bit of a hard time getting myself to get the job done. They would pile up during the day and then finally at night I would buckle down and get them cleaned and away.

(This is in part due to my little shadow who is such a fun helper, she just loves to pull all of the silverware out of the little holders and scatter them everywhere and then when she's done with that, climb up onto the dishwasher to get the glass cups that are just out of her reach... so it's not totally a lazy thing for me, but kind of yes...)

All this was true until last Friday night, Cameron was kindly washing dishes, cleaning up dinner, when we got a visitor from downstairs telling us that they had hot soapy water coming up their sink.... Our drain lines connect somewhere along the way down to neverland, but before reaching neverland, something had clogged and was not allowing anything to go down the drain, which meant that anything we were doing upstairs, was going to reappear momentarily in our neighbor's sink downstairs... So Cameron stopped cleaning and that's when the cleaning freeze began. We couldn't use our dishwasher because it drains down the same pipes and no kitchen sink use... So the dishes just started piling up...

This went on until I literally had nothing left in my cupboard! I'd used all of my measuring cups, measuring spoons, plates, cups, silverware, bowls, everything was in a pile in the sink or near to it... Sunday, our neighbors had someone come look at the draining problem, but his 25' snake didn't find the problem... so the freeze continued... I washed a few plates, cups, and pieces of silverware from the dishwasher in bowls on the counter just so that I had something in the bare cupboards. I finally gave up hope that they would get a plumber in who would actually fix the problem and decided to use all paper products...

By Tuesday, I had just about been driven crazy, I felt like my house was a mess because my kitchen was covered in flour, dirty dishes and soaking dishes... gross! I was about to pull out all of my camping-dish-doing skills and cart all of the dishes into our bathroom to do them in the bathtub... when I heard mysterious sounds coming from our sink! It was a repairman! He had a 50' snake which was able to get things moving and allow the use of our sink again!

I've never been more excited to do the dishes! I seriously stood and washed dishes for over an hour smiling the whole time! I am mostly writing this post for myself, but if you read this I'm glad you did to know of the immense gratitude I feel for the modern conveniences of running water and drains that work! So, now even when there is a pile of dishes and I'm tired or whatever... I try to remember how it could be and happily do the dishes!

Valentines Day 2014!

Since we have been watching the Cake Boss and Cameron was feeling inspired by it all, we decided to try our hand at making a Cake Boss worthy cake as our Valentines Day activity! We started with a trip to HEB to gather all the ingredients. We baked 4 red velvet round cakes and from there, Cameron cut the tops off and shaped them into heart shapes!

We mixed up a chocolate truffle filling and buttercream frosting to keep all of the good stuff inside. Put raspberries on the chocolate truffle and then stacked the layers up! (So we were going to do the 4 layers, but that was turning huge, so I talked Cam down to 3 layers.)

Then came the dirty icing (with buttercream) and then the layer of marshmallow fondant!

Cameron did most of the detail work making the ribbon and bow as well as the roses on the side with his homemade 'rose nail' (the bottom of a plastic cup with a nail through it!)...

He finished it up with piping to decorate the outside and then a little sideways Cam and Charee' to finish it off! I got to put Cam's hair on him!

So here's the final product! You can judge for yourselves if it is Cake Boss worthy.

Even if it wasn't totally up to the Cake Boss' standard, it was an awesome activity and a great way to have a fun time for Valentines day!

P.S. Our other activity was to make heart pizzas (Cameron's family tradition)... and since Jared, Cam's older bro, was here for the TMEA conference, he got to shape the pizza dough and help with that! Did a good job huh!
